Who is Anna Delvey?

Anna Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, was born on January 23, 1991, during the Soviet Union in Russia and moved to Germany with her family when she was 16 years old.

She moved to New York City in 2013 and adopted the persona of a German heiress, ultimately conning Manhattan socialites, banks, and hotels out of thousands of dollars.

Sorokin was charged with grand larceny in 2018 and was found guilty on six counts in 2019.

She was sentenced to a maximum of 12 years in prison but was released in February 2021.

She dropped out of London's Central Saint Martin's art and design college in 2012 when she decided to move to Paris for an internship at Purple Magazine.

It was during this time that she adopted the surname Delvey and continued to use this name to con people who thought they were her friends out of thousands of dollars.

In the summer of 2013, Sorokin spent time in New York City befriending art collector, Michael Xufu Huang.

It was then that Sorokin asked to accompany Huang to an exhibition in Italy.

She reportedly promised that she would pay back the cost of flights and a hotel stay at a later date.

Huang told Cosmopolitan that the money materialized later on when he was "wired money from an unfamiliar account".

The outlet reported that the art collector grew more suspicious of Sorokin when a restaurant called him following her birthday dinner.

It was alleged that the restaurant was asking for Sorokin's details, as the card numbers she'd given had bounced.

Where is Anna Delvey now?

Sorokin was released from prison on February 11, 2021, after serving three years of her sentence.

But In March 2021, six weeks after her release, she was taken back into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying her visa.

A judge ruled on October 5, 2022, that Delvey could be released from ICE custody amidst her deportation fight.

This release comes with the clause of a $10,000 bail as well as round-the-clock home confinement with electronic monitoring.

The deal also prohibits Delvey from social media involvement.
