Nottingham ‘explosion’ – Locals urged to stay away & shut windows after huge blaze at asbestos plant
A MAJOR blaze at an industrial estate sparked a "huge explosion" this afternoon.
Residents living near the plant in Nottingham have been told to stay away from the area due to suspected burning asbestos.

Huge plumes of smoke were seen billowing through the sky as firefighters tackled the flames.
As many as 12 engines were on the scene in Lenton after the fire was reported at around 2pm.
Those nearby have told of hearing a "huge explosion" less than an hour later.
Locals have been urged to close their doors and windows and avoid Abbeyfield Road until the blaze is under control.
A firefighter on the scene told : "It's all asbestos in there. They won't let you in."
While a spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We currently have 12 appliances in attendance at a recycling fire in the Lenton area.
"Smoke can be seen from a distance away so we urge local residents, or anyone who can see or smell smoke, to close doors and windows.
"Abbeyfield Road is currently closed so please avoid the area.

The service later tweeted: "Due to the scale of this incident and smoke plume the A52 North and South from Clifton Bridge to Dunkirk will be closed.
"We'll be working with our partners National Highways East Midlands and Nottinghamshire Police.
"Thank you for your patience and understanding as we deal with the fire."
It is so far unclear what caused the blaze, but it is believed to have broken out at a recycling plant.
It is reported to be the fourth major fire in the area in about a year.
