DRINKS BEHIND THE BARS

Teenage girls who asked cabbie to take them to nightclub called PRYZM are taken to PRISON instead – and he kept the meter on

And amazingly he kept the meter on for the way back

A GROUP of friends almost ended up behind bars on a night out after a bungling cab driver took them to a PRISON when they asked to go to a local nightclub.

Ellie Rogers and her pals were on a night out in Birmingham when they decided to head out to one of the city’s plush nightclubs - called PRYZM.

But getting completely the wrong end of the stick – the driver instead took them to HMP Birmingham in Winson Green, where 1,500 men are banged up.

18-year-old Ellie said: “I hopped in a cab in Tipton at around 10pm for a night out in Birmingham with two friends.

“When we realised we’d arrived at Winson Green, I did a double-take.

“We were all shocked. We were like ‘Ohmigod! What have we done?’

“It was so funny. We were all dressed up for a night out, sitting outside the prison.

“I turned round to my friend and said, ‘Is he joking?’ But the cab driver didn’t know what to say – he went very quiet.”

Ellie and her friends, also from Tipton, realised the cab driver had misheard and laughed it off.

Eventually the driver took the girls to Pryzm on Broad Street, a 25-minute drive from the prison.

But they were in for another surprise when they discovered that the bungling cabbie had left the meter ON for the journey back.

Ellie added: “We paid £15 for it.

“He charged us extra to take us somewhere we didn’t ask to go.”

This incident didn’t ruin Ellie’s night, however, and won’t deter her from going to Pryzm again.

“I might have to explain where we want to go very carefully,” she added.

“Next time, I think I will ask the cab driver to take me to Gatecrasher, which is what the club used to be called.”

Choice and Wednesbury Cars Ltd, the cab company that Ellie used for the roundabout journey, was unavailable for comment.
