iPhone 7 jokes and memes light up social media as fans mock Apple’s £159 ‘airpods’
Tech lovers issue hilarious responses to pricey but potentially groundbreaking new headphones
Apple shocked the world last night after announcing the end of the traditional headphone jack and the arrival of tiny, pricy wireless earbuds called "airpods".
Tech lovers watched as their favourite firm finally unveiled the iPhone 7, before unleashing a torrent of memes and jokes mocking Apple over its highly controversial decision.
Many people said they would end up losing the tiny gadgets, which have been likened to "tampons without string".
"RIP to my bank account when i lose 20 pairs of airpods," wrote one man on Twitter.
Another person wrote above "so pumped... can't wait to lose them" above a very rude fake Apple earpods advert which said: "Wireless. Effortless. Magical.
"Lost. F******. Immediately."
In several hilarious tweets, some people simply cut off the wire from their old headphones and declared them to be airpods, whilst one joker plugged an electric toothbrush into his ear and made a similar claim.
A jokingly suggested that tech fans would be able to upgrade their old iPhone by putting a slug of metal into the headphone jack.
The website wrote: "This isn't 2009. Your phone doesn't have a floppy drive, and it shouldn't have a headphone connector either.
"When we made iPhone 6 and 6s, the world wasn't ready for the future. Now, it is. Apple Plug is the perfect solution. Fill in your archaic headphone connector with beautiful aluminium and plug yourself into the future."
On Twitter, one user gently mocked Apple's continual drive to make it's products ever sleeker and more minimal.
He wrote: "iPhone 7: No headphone jack. iPhone 8: No home button. iPhone 9: Wireless charging, no charging port.
"Soon the iPhone will just disappear..."
But it was the removal of the headphone jack which prompted the most jokes, as people came to terms with the fact their new iPhone wouldn't work with any of their preexisting headphones, hifis or other audio gadgets.
The airpods will cost £159 and have proven to be such a talking point that The Guardian tweeted: "Earth to Apple: wireless Airpod headphones are like a tampon without a string."
And who can argue with that?
