Pensioner, 84, admits to driving without a licence for 72 YEARS – and he’d never been stopped by cops

AN elderly pensioner has admitted to driving without a licence for more than seven decades - yet was not once caught out by cops.

Police were left stunned when they this week pulled an 84-year-old motorist over in Nottingham - only to discover he had been cutting about in cars since the age of 12, despite never having a licence or insurance.

The OAP, who was unsteady on his feet and hard of hearing, told officers who stopped him next to Tesco Extra in Bulwell on Wednesday evening he was born in 1938 and had been driving since 1950.

Luckily, the elderly man - who was behind the wheel of a blue Mini - had never been involved in an accident.

Nottinghamshire Police took to social media to share details of the bizarre call-out after the pensioner was finally caught after 72 years on the roads.

The force's City North Operation Reacher team wrote: "The City North OP Reacher team are out on pro-active patrols in Sherwood and Carrington this evening.

"An early inquiry by The Bearded Boss over in Bulwell, found him pulling over this Mini One next to Tesco Extra.

"We can't quite believe what happened next, as the driver, who was born in 1938, coughed that he had been driving with no licence and no insurance, since he was 12 (yes TWELVE) years old.....and somehow had managed to never be stopped by the police. We'll let you do the maths!!

";Thankfully he had never had an accident, caused anyone an injury, and never made anyone lose out financially, by hitting them whilst uninsured!

"Due to the increased number of ANPR camera's in Nottingham, even on the small trips, you are likely to hit a camera, so make sure your documents are in order.....because it will catch up with you.....one day....."

Social medias users commented on the post as many questioned if seven decades of driving without a licence is a record.

One person said: "Talk about pushing your luck. That has got be some sort of record surely?"

Another put: "How has he got away with that, can't be too many people who have been driving longer than that without a licence. Rather dangerous but I strangely admire him. "

A third added: "Awww give him some luv my Dad was same born in 1931 did 70,000 miles a year for over 50 years no accidents apart from a cow that ran in front of him, be gentle with ode folk"

The force then replied: "We were gentle with him. however, this chap was hard of hearing, his reactions were poor and he was very unsteady on his feet.

"He was potentially not safe driving now, even if he was 'road legal'."
