Haiti earthquake today: At least 1 dead and 3 hurt from 5.6 quake days after anniversary of disaster that killed 250,000
HAITI has reported a 5.6 earthquake just days after the anniversary of a disaster that killed 250,000 people.
The terrifying shake was reported at around 8.16am on Monday morning.
The disaster had a reported depth of 10 kilometers, and a 5.6 magnitude.
The departmental delegate reported that one person had died and at least three people were hurt.
In August of 2021, Haiti experienced a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that killed more than 2,000 people.
At least 5,700 people were injured in the Caribbean nation, with thousands more displaced from their destroyed or damaged homes.
The earthquake struck the southwestern part of the hemisphere’s poorest nation, almost razing some towns and triggering landslides that hampered rescue efforts in a country already struggling with the coronavirus pandemic, a presidential assassination, and a wave of gang violence.

The epicenter was about 125 kilometers west of the capital of Port-au-Prince, the US Geological Survey said, and aftershocks continued to jolt the area.
Monday's earthquake comes just after the 12th anniversary of the 2010 Haiti disaster, which left thousands dead.
The magnitude 7.0 quake of 2010 hit closer to densely populated Port-au-Prince and caused widespread destruction.
Haiti’s government put the death toll at more than 300,000, while a report commissioned by the US government placed it between 46,000 and 85,000.
