One thousand deadly ecstasy pills seized by cops at Scottish music festival – double last year’s total
Showpiece music bash held in July saw £30,000 worth of drugs confiscated
A HAUL of more than 1,000 ecstasy pills was seized at T in the Park — nearly double last year’s total.
The killer tablets were among drugs worth £30,000 confiscated by cops at the showpiece music bash, which was linked to three deaths by substance abuse.
Half a kilo of dope, almost 250g of cocaine, diazepam, speed, heroin and horse tranquiliser ketamine were also found on fans busted during the three-day festival at Strathallan Castle in Perthshire.
Last night local MSP Liz Smith warned organisers DF Concerts the tally could put its future in jeopardy.
Her grim forecast came after we revealed fears over the death toll of tragedy in July that T was awash with more drugs than ever.
Ms Smith said: “We cannot allow a situation where the festival gets a reputation for drugs and anti-social behaviour.
“This will only put off people from attending what is a major event in our summer calendar.
“Those in charge must take steps to crack down on the sale and consumption of illegal drugs.”
Police stats reveal a total 274 drug seizures, netting gear worth £31,200.
The E haul is nearly twice the 506 tablets discovered in 2015, when £36,000 of banned substances were found.
Only a handful of fans dumped drugs in amnesty bins provided on site. These collected 43g of cannabis, 22 ecstasy tabs and 2g of party powder MDMA.
Ms Smith is due to meet DF Concerts boss Geoff Ellis this week to thrash out ways of tackling the plague. She added: “There are key problems with policing and stewarding.”
Grim tally of illicit gear
Ecstasy tablets 1000.25
Diazepam tablets 84
Herbal cannabis 457g
Cocaine 247g
Cannabis resin 161g
Amphetamine 85g
Ketamine 7g
Heroin 4g
Chief Superintendent Angela McLaren insisted last night: “Police Scotland enforce a zero tolerance policy towards drugs.”
Peter MacCallum, from Lochgilphead, Argyll, and Megan Bell, of Seaham, County Durham, both 17, perished at the estate venue.
The body of dad Jim Richardson, 29, of Wishaw, Lanarkshire, was found on a farm ten miles from the festival after he vanished on his way home.
