Two dead after HGV smash – with woman, 29, and baby, one, fighting for life in hospital

TWO people - one of them a 24-year-old woman - have died in a horror lorry smash, while a 29-year-old and a baby are fighting for life in hospital.

Cops and paramedics dashed to a stretch of the A436 near idyllic Cotswolds village Andoversford yesterday after the smash between a black Mazda and an HGV.

Despite the efforts of blue light workers, two casualties have now lost their lives following the collision at 11.15am.

The driver of the Mazda, a 31-year-old man, died at the scene.

The young woman died last night in hospital.

Three other passengers in the car, including a one-year-old baby, were also rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

The tot and a 29-year-old woman remain in a serious condition.

A 24-year-old man has since been discharged.

The lorry driver suffered minor injuries.

Cops investigating the tragedy are now calling for anyone with information to come forward urgently.

They said tonight the Mazda had been travelling from Andoversford towards Seven Springs, while the HGV was being driven in the opposite direction.

All of those in the car live in Bedfordshire.

A spokesperson from Gloucestershire Police said: "Officers would like to hear from anyone who has not already been spoken to and may have witnessed what happened.

"They are also appealing for anyone with dashcam footage of the collision."

"Officers wish to extend their thanks to members of the public who provided assistance at the scene, as well as to colleagues from the fire and ambulance services," the spokesperson said.

"The families of those involved are being supported by specially trained officers."
