The cost of a garden makeover can vary widely but the price can quickly mount up depending on just how much space you have and what you want doing.
Makeovers can vary from a simple tidy up and some new plants to a full overhaul designed by a professional landscape gardener.
Firstly, it is best to work out what your budget it is and make sure you stick to it.
You might dream of having the perfectly manicured garden but this might not be practical.
Costs will also vary depending on what sort of garden you want – do you want somewhere just to relax and unwind? Somewhere for the kids to play safely? Or maybe you want to grow your own fruit and veg?
According to the experts, even a makeover of a small garden can cost around £5,000.
Gardener, author and horticultural broadcaster Ellen Mary told : “Budgets vary vastly on your garden space and design, from the materials used to the plant choices, furniture and hard landscaping.
“In general, for a small space you might be looking at a minimum of £5,000 upwards and for a large garden the costs can soon sky rocket, so have an idea what your budget is and look at what you can achieve with that amount. Don’t let the cost put you off though because many gardens can be designed on a small budget.”
Laying real grass can cost around £10 to £20 per square metre.
Artificial turf costs around £60 per square metre although it will need less maintenance in the future.
When it comes to laying a path, expect to pay around £500.
While smaller walls, around 3ft high can be installed by the keen DIYer, bigger walls will need expert planning on ensure they are built to last.
The cost can rise dramatically though if you want to build a taller wall or if it is placed on sloping land.
The site estimates that building a 10ft high wall on sloping land will cost, on average, £19,344.
