Gatwick airport drama caught on camera as driver tasered by cops after ramming police cars outside arrivals hall
SHOCKING footage shows the moment armed cops leapt on top of a 4x4 after a crash near the arrivals hall at Gatwick.
Witnesses say the vehicle rammed police cars as it was driven headlong into traffic yesterday afternoon.
Film captured from inside a car parked across the road shows two BMWs - one black, one white - blocking a road.
Both have come to a halt just metres in front of oncoming traffic.
An officer, who seems to be holding a weapon, is kneeling on the bonnet of the black car.
He appears to be angled towards the white car, which has a window open.
Three other officers pull a man from the white vehicle and wrestle him to the pavement.
Smoke from the damaged car can be seen drifting through the air.
A suspect was Tasered during the frightening incident.
It happened as thousands of families travelled to the airport for holidays abroad before the Christmas break ends.
"We can confirm he was Tasered to ensure the welfare of himself, our officers and ultimately, everybody else.
"Public safety is our priority.
"He remains in custody for questioning and will be assesed for his vulnerabilities."
The spokesman added that the incident "followed a report of concerns for a vulnerable man in distress, who failed to stop when requested by officers."
They added: "The incident has concluded and there is no threat to the wider public."
