Woke headteacher ditches ‘outdated’ titles of head boy and head girl
A WOKE headteacher has ditched the “outdated” titles head boy and head girl.
Rachael Lucas has instead appointed three “head’s ambassadors”.
She said the gender neutral roles would provide “a welcoming atmosphere for all”.
But the move was blasted online. Dave Campbell wrote: “God help us. Teachers need re-educating. The genes don’t lie. Male or female, boy or girl. Cannot be anything else.”
Diane Williams added: “No wonder our teenagers have mental issues, they don’t know who they are anymore.”
Mrs Lucas, head of Bolton St Catherine’s Academy in Greater Manchester, said in a letter to parents: “We recognise and celebrate diversity and inclusion.
“We are delighted to be able to showcase our commitment to this by thinking about how we address our lead student ambassadors — moving away from the outdated notion of a head girl and boy.”
She adds that “with many other initiatives around school, we are signalling our resolution to be an institution that is welcoming to all.”
More than 20 pupils applied for the ambassador positions, with a trio selected.
Earlier this year, she said she would file a report to public health officials after girls turned up to class with false eyelashes applied by beauticians, apparently in a Covid rule breach.
