The documentary will air a year after a trove of top secret docs relating to Kennedy's assassination was released

THE assassination of John F. Kennedy has continued to spark mystery and fascination – decades after the shooting rocked America.

Kennedy’s death was one of the most notorious crimes in US history, but conspiracy theories have been allowed to flourish as a trove of government files were kept under wraps for decades.

Lee Harvey Oswald was named as the assassin, but theories claiming the Kennedy was killed via a dart fired from an umbrella or that he was the victim of a CIA plot have been touted.

November 22, 2023 will mark 60 years since Kennedy was killed in Dallas, Texas, and ahead of that anniversary, the documentary JFK: What the Doctors Saw airs November 14 on Paramount+.

The show features accounts from doctors who were in the emergency room at Parkland Memorial Hospital with Kennedy after he was shot and fought for his life.

It is set to raise questions and spark further debate over whether Oswald acted alone, challenging the official FBI narrative.

Kennedy’s autopsy revealed he was hit with two bullets.

One of the bullets entered his upper back and left below the neck, while the other hit him in the back of his head and exited the front of his skull.

But, doctors in the documentary have said there was an entrance wound in Kennedy’s neck.

The documentary airs almost a year after the Biden Administration released more than 13,000 records.

Around 98% of the documents have been released, but more than 4,000 files remain under wraps, sparking mystery.

The U.S. Sun takes a look at some of the conspiracy theories surrounding Kennedy’s death.

SOVIET LINKS?

Oswald, a self-proclaimed Marxist, was accused of shooting Kennedy from the window of the sixth floor of a nearby school textbook warehouse.

He was shot dead by Jack Ruby, who was later found guilty of murder and sentenced to death.

Files released in 2021 revealed that Oswald first emerged on the US’s radar during a technical operation in Mexico City in October 1963.

Between September 27 and October 3, he visited the Soviet Embassy in Mexico City multiple times for a visa to Cuba where he would wait to be picked up by the USSR.

Oswald then traveled back from Mexico to the US through Texas.

His Marxism may have influenced his decision to assassinate JFK, according to the JFK Assassination Records published by the .

Research revealed that Oswald's Marxist ideology was an "important factor" that influenced his behavior.

UMBRELLA MAN

Conspiracy theorists have studied footage from Kennedy’s assassination and spotted a mysterious man holding an umbrella and sporting a raincoat.

Umbrella Man has been described by  as the most famous conspiracy theory involving multiple shooters.

One theory is that the Umbrella Man "shot a poison dart into Kennedy’s neck, immobilizing him to allow for Oswald or others to deliver a kill shot."

It created mystery as it was a warm day in Dallas when Kennedy was shot.

Louie Steven Witt was identified as the so-called umbrella man.

He claimed that he brought the umbrella to heckle Kennedy as a protest and was a reference to Joseph P. Kennedy Sr.’s support for former British prime minister Neville Chamberlain.

Members of the US House Select Committee on Assassinations, which was created to examine Kennedy’s killing, suggested that the umbrella may have been a critique of the US Government’s policy during the Bay of Pigs invasion.

Questions and debates persist over whether Oswald acted alone.

Ronald Jones, one of the doctors who was in the emergency room at Parkland, says in the doc: “So, we were thinking there were two wounds.

“Had to be an entrance wound and an exit wound.

"That was the only way we could put it together. And so, I thought it was an entrance wound.”

Barbara Shearer, the executive producer of the documentary, told : “An entry wound to the neck — or to the front of JFK’s body — indicates a shot from the front.

“The idea being, there had to be a gunman in front of JFK if the bullet entered through his neck.

"That perspective runs contrary to the common narrative of JFK being shot from behind, by a lone gunman.”

Some people believe the theory about a second gunman who participated in the shooting from the grassy knoll of Dealey Plaza.

GRASSY KNOLL THEORY

The grassy knoll is a small hill inside Dealey Plaza.

In 2018, a research study published in the journal Heliyon found that JFK was not shot from the grassy knoll, based on an analysis of video footage.

According to the study: "The findings do not entirely rule out a conspiracy, but they do refute the most prominent theories that the fatal shot was fired from the grassy knoll.”

The Warren Commission in 1964 reported that Oswald had been the lone gunman, but its findings haven’t stopped baseless speculation that organizations such as the CIA may have been involved.

There is nothing to suggest that the CIA carried out Kennedy's assassination.

Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone was the writer behind the 1991 movie JFK: The Story That Won't Go Away.

It explored the circumstances leading up to the shooting and what transpired afterward.

CIA PLOT?

Stone insisted the idea that the CIA has hidden the truth is no longer a conspiracy theory but a “conspiracy fact."

Stone, who was 17 at the time, said: “When you murder a US president in broad daylight in front of the whole world, people sensed right away there were larger forces than one man at work.”

Meanwhile, Dave Perry told that he has yet to debunk the theory claiming the CIA was involved.

Perry said: "Supposedly Kennedy was fed up with the shenanigans that the CIA was pulling.

"He found out the CIA was trying to kill [Cuban leader Fidel] Castro, which is a fact.

"So the argument is that the CIA felt that Kennedy was going to disband them. And as a result of that, they were the ones that ordered the killing of Kennedy.”

Conspiracy theorists have also attributed Kennedy’s death to extra-terrestrials.

Milton William Cooper, a former US radio personality, peddled the baseless theory that an alleged gas pressure device killed Kennedy.

He wildly claimed the driver of his limo was supplied by the aliens because of speculation that JFK was prepared to uncover alleged Washington-alien collusion.
