On Wednesday, December 8, 2021, the jury in Jussie Smollett's trial ended their deliberation.
When Smollett took the witness stand earlier in the week, he repeatedly denied the attack against him was fraudulent.
The actor claimed: "There was no hoax on my part,".
Smollett continued to deny all of the charges brought against him and referred to the two brothers who testified against him as "liars."

On Thursday, December 9, 2021, Smollett was found guilty of five charges of disorderly conduct, all of which involve giving false police reports of hate crimes and battery.
It was announced on January 27, 2022, that Smollett would be returning to court to be sentenced on March 10, 2022.
Cook County Judge James Linn set the sentencing to be held in Chicago after Smollett informed Judge Linn during a Zoom hearing that he was in New York.

On March 10, 2022, Judge Linn sentenced the former Empire actor to 30 months felony probation, with the first 150 days in county jail.
Smollett does not have to live in the state of Illinois during the 30 month period, he will be able to report by phone.
He was also ordered to pay $120,106 to the city of Chicago in restitution and fined $25,000.
But on March 16, 2022, Smollett was ordered to be released from jail by the court, .
An appeals court came to an agreement with Smollett's lawyers regarding the fact that he should be released pending the appeal of his conviction.
In a 2-1 decision, the appeals court said Smollett can be released after posting a personal recognizance bond of $150,000, according to the Associated Press.
This means Smollett doesn’t have to put down money but agrees to come to court as required.
Appellate Court Justices Thomas Hoffman and Joy Cunningham signed the order granting Smollett’s request to be released, which noted he was convicted of non-violent offenses. Justice Maureen Connors dissented.

On the same day the trial began, the actor's legal team made a final attempt to have the case dismissed but Judge Linn denied Smollett's lawyers' request.
The trial wrapped up on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, with the jury beginning their deliberations at around 2.45pm CT.
Throughout the proceedings, Smollett and prosecutor Dan Webb clashed a number of times, particularly when Webb read messages from Smollett and the use of the N-word.
