VANDALS attacked a Jewish community center in Kansas City during Hanukkah, causing water damage and forcing the organization to look for a temporary new facility.
Rabbi Yitzchak Itkin told the Associated Press that vandals hit the Chabad on the Plaza on Tuesday, November 30, throwing books and papers throughout the room.
“There is nothing more disturbing than walking into the Chabad house for an early morning Torah class and finding the place torn up,” the rabbi said on Facebook.
“That was my reality this week.”
The facility serves as a community center and synagogue, hosting prayer services, meals and community gatherings.
Plumbing and electrical damage will require the community to temporarily relocate during repairs.
Local news outlet reported that cabinet doors were also ripped off in some rooms, and that there were areas of standing water.
Police reported neither the Torah nor any other important religious texts were damaged by the vandals.
