ALEC Baldwin exhibits "explosive" behavior and may have been "withholding information" in his first TV interview since the shooting death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust, an expert claims.
The 63-year-old actor broke down in tears as he recounted the moments leading up to Hutchins' death during a dress rehearsal in Sante Fe, New Mexico on October 21 in an exclusive interview with ABC 20/20 on Thursday.
Baldwin, who was starring in and co-produced the film, had been holding an antique revolver as he practiced a "cross-draw" when suddenly it discharged, killing cinematographer Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.
The Oscar-nominated star told ABC's George Stephanopoulos that he had "no idea" how a live bullet got onto the set of his film and said he didn't pull the trigger before it fired.
"I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger at them, never," Baldwin said.
"Someone put a live bullet in a gun, a bullet that wasn't even supposed to be on the property," he added.
When Stephanopoulos asked if the fatal shooting was the worst thing that has ever happened to him, Baldwin replied: "Yes - because I think back and I think of what could I have done?
"She was someone who was loved by everyone who worked with [her] and liked by everyone who worked with [her], and admired...," he continued, breaking down in tears.
"I mean, even now I find it hard to believe that [she's gone]. It doesn't seem real to me."
'EXPLOSIVE' BEHAVIOR
Analyzing Baldwin's body language during the tell-all, expert Patti Wood exclusively told The Sun that Baldwin exhibited "explosive" behavior while explaining that he didn't pull the trigger of the gun.
"When he says the trigger wasn't pulled, it's explosive meaning that he's striking down the phrase ‘the trigger wasn't pulled’," Wood explained.
"He’s striking down on each word to emphasize it with great strength. There’s no hesitation in that the trigger wasn’t pulled. Instead, it’s punching which would indicate that he strongly feels that and so it’s likely to be true."

Wood added that other signs in Baldwin's behavior indicate that he's telling the truth when claiming he didn't pull the trigger, including sustaining eye contact and leaning forward.
"Baldwin's shoulders and his head go forward [as he speaks]. Occasionally, when somebody is lying they would retreat, the shoulders would come back and their head would come back. Instead, he goes forward.
"[Going forwards means] they want to be believed by the other person. [They're saying] 'you've got to listen to me', 'you've got to believe', 'I didn't do this. I'm telling you the truth.'
"He also maintains eye contact throughout most of what he's saying, which would again indicate that he's being truthful."
ALEC'S EMOTION 'REAL'
Wood also said that the tears shed by Baldwin as he speaks about Hutchins are "real."
"We see the sadness come up through his face," she said. "He brings his lip that’s trying to hold the tears, sadness and then we see him put his hand over his mouth to cover up.
"The sequences of movements are appropriate and indicate that he really is crying and feeling those emotions."
Interestingly, Wood said she was unable to determine whether Baldwin was withholding information when he claimed to not know how a live round made it on set - or whether genuinely didn't know.
"He doesn't strike down and hit the word no," she said. "His voice goes more into a whisper.
"It could be because he has no idea and it seems mysterious to him and it puzzles him. So he has all this hesitation, meaning he has no idea.
"So the voice goes back in the throat. He didn't know. Or it could be because he does know that he's withholding something. It could mean either of those two interpretations."
Later in the interview, Baldwin's behavior reiterated the "strong emotional state" he currently finds himself in, according to Wood.
'STRONG EMOTIONAL STATE'
That exchange came when he was asked by Stephanopoulos if the fatal shooting was the worst thing that has ever happened to him, she said, highlighting how Baldwin was gripping the sides of his legs with both hands.
"He's trying to hold himself in place and stay there in the interview and stay grounded in the interview," she said.
"It shows here’s an actor and he’s still having to do this grounding of holding himself in place, holding himself there.
"That's not an indication of guilt, nor is it an indication of innocence; It's an indication of the strong emotional state that he's having."
Wood further highlighted for The Sun that, even before Stephanopoulos had finished the question, Baldwin lifted his hand for a fraction of a second and responded "yes."
"He does an explosive 'yes', then a second, and then he waits and he does a third. When somebody truly feels something, strangely it comes in threes," Wood explained.
Baldwin told reporters last month that Halyna was his “friend” and the day he arrived in Santa Fe to start shooting the American Western film, he took her to dinner with Joel Souza - the film's director.
He also previously confirmed that he met with Hutchins' husband and her nine-year-old son after the tragic incident but said he “wouldn’t know how to categorize” the emotional gravity of the meeting.
“The guy is overwhelmed with grief,” Baldwin said at the time. “There are incidental accidents on film sets from time to time, but nothing like this. This is a one in a trillion episode.”
PROBE CONTINUES
Hutchins was regarded as a rising star in the film industry, having begun her career in 2012.
The 42-year-old was best known for her work on films such as Archenemy, Darlin’, and Blindfire.
The investigation into her death remains ongoing.

The tragedy has also renewed calls for better safety practices on sets with regards to the use of weapons and black rounds.
Baldwin has said he believes police officers should be present on "every film/TV set that uses guns, fake or otherwise" to monitor weapons safety.
