The iPhone 7 will be released on September 7 and tech fans are expecting a BIG surprise
Apple sends out invitations to glittering launch event at its Californian headquarters
It's the biggest day in Apple fans' calendar, but until today we didn't have an official date for the unveiling of the iPhone 7.
Now the fruity firm has finally confirmed long-standing rumours by announcing that its next smartphone will be announced on September 7.
The tech giant has sent out invitations to its annual iPhone event featuring a blurry photograph which looks like a city viewed in the rain and the words: "See you on the 7th."
It's believed the image on the invitation alludes to a new dual camera due to be introduced on the iPhone 7, which would allow users to snap 3D images.
Apple's launches are generally met with massed excitement and this event is no different, with techies taking to Twitter to share images of their invitation.
But they are also bracing themselves for disappointment, because the next iPhone is rumoured to be missing a headphone jack.
This means millions of Apple lovers will be forced to buy a new set of headphones or fork out for an adaptor.
Both these options are likely to be expensive and result in a mass outpouring of grumpiness.
