It is claimed Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership rival answered by gesturing to his penis and saying “29 inches – inner leg measurement of course”.

But a spokesman for Smith’s campaign denied this is what he was doing and said the account was “inaccurate”.

“During an event in Hull Owen was asked by a member of the audience ‘Can I ask you ask you a personal question?’” the spokesman told .

They added: “Owen said: ‘five foot, six inches, and 29 inch inside leg’.

“He then gestured to the inside of his leg.

“It was a self-deprecating joke about his height.”

The denial has not stopped people on Twitter discussing what happened – with many questioning whether Smith is fit to lead the Labour Party.

And others just laughing at the gaffe.

Deborah O’Driscoll said: “Have this great image of Owen with his imaginary 29 like a lightsabre slaying @jeremycorbyn but Jeremy will swipe him away.”

Haravikk posted: “@OwenSmith2016 admits that he is a 29-inch penis! Might as well, not like coverage of this contest could get much sillier!”

A Twitter user called no1whisky definitely isn’t a fan of Smith, writing: “Owen Smith going for a full house on things not to do in an election.

“Just waiting for him to endorse Trump and punch Vera Lynn.”
