A TEENAGE girl has been airlifted to hospital after a high-speed water skiing accident next to a busy pier.
The 14-year-old was being towed by a boat at 47mph when she lost control and carthwheeled through the air.
Emergency crews were called at about 3.45pm to the Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare.
The girl, who suffered serious neck and back injuries, was strapped to a spinal board and airlifted to hospital.
Rescue worker Mike Buckland said “This is a terrible accident, but because of the training our crews get, we gave this young lady the best chance of making a full recovery.
“I would like to thank the jet skiers in Knightstone Harbour who got our crew to the lifeboat and played a part in making sure this casualty made it safely to hospital.”
