During Guede's interview with The U.S. Sun, the freed convict also said: "The first thing I want to say is to the Kercher family and how sorry I am for their loss.

What happened to Amanda Knox?

In 2009, Amanda Knox and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were jailed for the murder and sexual assault of British student Meredith Kercher.

Knox received a 26-year sentence, and Sollecito was given a 25-year sentence.

The pair were acquitted of the crime in 2015 after it was found that there were serious failings in the original trial, as well as a lack of evidence.

Knox has since gone on to become an author and journalist and has spoken openly about her treatment during the ordeal.
