Hungry office worker Li was left horrified by the discovery and called the restaurant ‘unscrupulous’

A HUNGRY young woman has vowed to never order takeaway food again after finding dozens of giant bugs in her Chinese meal.

The unfortunate office worker, identified only by her surname Li, claimed she ordered the insect infested meal through the restaurant’s online service.

The unfortunate office worker, who was identified only by her surname, Li, claimed she ordered the meal of shrimp, rice, and vegetables through the takeaway shop’s online service, only to discover the disgusting insects when opening her lunch. Li, who works in Changsha, capital of Central China’s Hunan Province, said the meal, which consists of a box of mixed vegetables and shrimp with a separate box of white rice, arrived at 2pm and she immediately dug in. After using her chopsticks to pick out some of the peppers inside, however, she said she was horrified to discover what seemed to be a group of shelled bugs inside – which she also might have swallowed because of their resemblance to the shrimp. The tiny creatures had in fact grown from a small size to be as large as the shrimp and possibly went unnoticed by the restaurant’s cooks. Li was therefore mortified when she found not one, not two, but a total of 38 of them inside the dish, causing her stomach to churn. She uploaded the disturbing photos online and also informed local authorities about the takeaway shop, which she has dubbed "unscrupulous". The owner of the shop, which goes by the name "Yu Ying Family Restaurant", apologised to Li and also refunded the money for her meal. The business promised to look into the distributors who provided the shrimp, but is likely it will be shut down pending an official investigation by local food safety authorities. Local media representatives reportedly visited the business and confirmed that the meal Li ordered is popular and sells about 1,050 portions every month, averaging around 30 orders a day. The shrimp meal had already been sold out by the end of the day, reports said.

The disgusting insects resemble the shrimp which were also in Li's lunch

Food fan Li, who works in Changsha, China, revealed her stomach was grumbling when her shrimp and rice meal arrived at 2pm and she immediately got stuck in.

However, when she started to use her chopsticks to sift around the portion of shrimp and vegetables, which was separate from the rice, she found 38 shelled bugs in her food.

Clean eating enthusiast Li said the gruesome insects looked similar to shrimp which may explain the reason why the restaurant did not notice the infestation.

The former fast food fanatic placed the bulging insects on her rice and promptly took a snap with her phone camera.

She uploaded the disturbing photo online and also informed local authorities about the takeaway shop, which she has described as "unscrupulous".

The owner of Yu Ying Family Restaurant, apologised to poor Li and also refunded the money for her disgusting meal.

The business  reportedly blamed the food distributors who provided the shrimp.

But the restaurant will likely be shut down pending an official investigation by local food safety authorities.

Local media representatives reportedly visited the business and confirmed that the meal Li ordered is popular with the business shifting around 30 orders a day to ravenous customers.
