Dire warnings issued after 33.5°C heat makes England hotter than the Greek islands as Brits lap up the sun
THE record 33.8°C (93°F) heat yesterday was hotter than the Greek islands.
The highest temperature was in Cavendish, Suffolk.
It beat the 33.5°C (92°F) in Brize Norton, Oxfordshire, last month.
Public Health England issued heatwave alerts across the South East, London, East Midlands and in the East.
Spokesman Dr Thomas Waite said: “It’s really important to remember that there are some people whose health suffers in hot weather.

“Older people, those with underlying health conditions and young children may all feel the ill-effects.”
Workers’ advice group Acas urged employers to let staff dress down on a second day of soaring temperatures.
But the hot air could trigger storms, heavy rain and flash floods today. And the unsettled weather will continue as 5.1million head for a Bank Holiday getaway.
Tips for coping with the hot weather
• Shut windows and pull down shades when it's hot outside - open windows only when it's cooler.
• Stay out of the sun during the hottest times of day - 11am to 3pm - if you're vulnerable to the effects of heat.
• Have cool baths and showers
• Drink cold drinks regularly and avoid alcohol, caffeine and drinks high in sugar
• Plan ahead to make sure you have the food, fluids and medication you need
• Identify the coolest room in your house so you know where to go to keep cool
• Wear loose clothing, a hat and sunglasses if you go outdoors
• Check on friends, neighbours and relatives who may be less able to look after themselves
• If someone is suffering symptoms such as breathlessness, chest pains, confusion, weakness, dizziness, persistent cramps or extreme thirst seek get them somewhere cool and give them plenty of fluids as well as seeking further advice from a GP or calling NHS 111.
