SHADOW Chancellor John McDonnell is being investigated over claims of financial misconduct.

The probe is said to relate to a donation he received from the TSSA transport union, which covered the £30,000 salary of his chief economic adviser James Meadway.

House of Commons rules state that all financial declarations must be logged within 28 days.

But Mr McDonnell, who is in charge of Labour’s economic strategy, appears to have waited seven months before declaring it in July.

The Office of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards confirmed he was being investigated.

Before working for Labour, Mr Meadway openly backed non-Labour candidates in a number of elections.

Mr McDonnell was unavailable for comment.
