Abused wife Penelope Jackson, 66, wrote ‘may he rot in hell’ after knifing husband to death
ABUSED wife Penelope Jackson penned a chilling note for cops after knifing her husband to death in a row over an iPhone charger.
The 66-year-old was today sentenced to life behind bars after she stabbed David Jackson, 78, at their Somerset home.
She slashed Mr Jackson across the chest in their bedroom as their quarrelled during a luxurious birthday meal.
As he desperately called 999 in the kitchen, she stabbed him twice more.
Jackson then calmly wrote a note. It was found beside the telephone by police investigating the horror.
The confession read: “To whom it may concern, I have taken so much abuse over the years – look at my records.
“But he was a good Daddy. However, the mask slipped tonight. That was unforgivable.
“I accept my punishment, may he rot in hell.”
Jackson added a comment in one corner which appeared to read “self-defence”.
She also confessed to the crime during an 18-minute call to the emergency services.
The retired accountant told a 999 call handler she’d tried to stab Mr Jackson through the heart – but added: “He doesn’t have one.”
A recording of the chat was played to jurors during the trial at Bristol Crown Court.
During the conversation, an eerily calm Jackson said: “I’ve killed my husband, or tried to because I’ve had enough. I might go and stab him again.
“I am in the lounge, he is in the kitchen bleeding to death with any luck.”
She said she had put “three holes in him” and added: “He is getting a bit slumpy.
“He threatened me before, but he’s not threatening me now.”
The call handler asked her to put pressure on Mr Jackson’s wounds to help stem the flow of blood.
‘I WON’T HELP HIM’
However, his wife refused.
“I am not going to help him,” she said.
“I know this is being recorded. I am compos mentis, but I have had enough of the abuse and the nastiness. I am not doing anything to help him.
“He deserves everything he has got – I accept everything that is coming my way. I might just go and do it again.”
In bodycam footage taken by the cops who arrested her, she was heard asking to go back into the house to get her coat.
An emergency responder says paramedics need to get inside “pronto” to begin CPR, to which she replied: “Oh don’t! No no no, please don’t. I should have stabbed him a bit more.”
And when she was arrested on suspicion of murder, Jackson said: “It’s murder now, not attempted murder? Oh good.”
Officers advised her to be quiet and wait for legal advice.
But she replied: “There’s nothing. I did it. Why I did it is a different issue, but I did it.”
The couple had spent the evening together enjoying a gourmet meal for Jackson’s birthday.
HORROR AFTER LUXURY MEAL
They’d eaten the dinner on Zoom with their daughter and son-in-law.
However, the evening turned sour in a row over the food and a charger.
Jackson was today told she must serve at least 18 years in prison – meaning she won’t be free until she’s at least 84.
Judge Martin Picton said she’d tried to portray David “as a monster”.
“Whilst there was no doubt, as in any marriage, points of friction that the lockdown would have exacerbated, I have no doubt that he was nothing like the person you have claimed,” he said.
“You took the life of another human being. That is a terrible thing to do and it represents a burden you and all the other family members will have to bear for the rest of their lives.
“Their memories of (David Jackson) will always be tarnished by the manner of his death and by the way you sought to portray him.”
“On February 13, my whole world fell away from my feet,” she said.
“From the moment when the police knocked on our door and told us what had happened, I had not only lost my dad but I had lost my mum too. My life was changed forever.”
