Passengers left terrified after cop’s gun ‘went off inside cabin’ on flight from Ibiza
Luckily no-one was hurt in shock shooting
HOLIDAYMAKERS on a packed flight from Ibiza were left fearing for their lives after a cop's "gun accidentally went off" inside the aircraft's cabin.
The Vueling aircraft was preparing to depart for Madrid-Barajas Airport in Spain when the weapon discharged in front of terrified passengers.
Fortunately the rogue bullet was shot into the unidentified officer's luggage - missing both him and those around him, local media reports.
The shocking incident left the plane and its passengers sitting on the tarmac for around half an hour after it was due to take off.
It is understood engineers had to be called in to check the plane hadn't been damaged by the shooting.
Passengers said a number of National Police agents were on board flight VY3420, which was due to leave Ibiza Airport at 1.15pm on Saturday.
Protocol on such occasions dictates that cops must hand over their guns to the pilot.
According to local newspaper it was during this handover that, as one of the officers went to do so, the weapon accidentally discharged inside his suitcase.
The publication said: "Two passengers did see what was going on. Fortunately the bullet fired from the gun did not leave the case."
No-one is believed to have been hurt during the incident.
A Vueling spokesperson said the incident was “minor” and “without further consequences for the passengers and crew” or the plane.
They added that the police officers followed the security procedures.
