Pat’s the spirit
We say a HUGE thank-you to everyone who signed our petition in support of SAS legend Pat as over 161,000 registered interest
A HUGE thank-you to everyone who signed our petition in support of SAS legend Pat.
Over 161,000 registered their anger at the 65-year-old Falklands at the 65-year-old Falklands veteran getting a prison sentence for keeping an unloaded pistol in his cellar.
On his release last week, Pat and his family spoke of their gratitude to Sun readers, without whom he may have spent even longer behind bars.
It took authorities four months to realise Pat’s crime was too minor to justify a stretch in jail — something we argued from the start.
The Home Office and MoD should now work together and call an amnesty so others in Pat’s position can safely hand in their war trophies without ending up in prison.
Britain’s military heroes deserve better.
Fuel fleecers
CAUGHT between greedy petrol giants and the highest fuel taxes in Europe, Britain’s motorists consistently get a raw deal.
The cost of oil has fallen steadily for the past month but pump prices have barely shifted.
Campaigners say wholesalers used Brexit uncertainty to fix prices and maximise profits.
Cheaper fuel helps working families, boosts the economy and creates jobs.
New Chancellor Philip Hammond should follow George Osborne’s lead and resist the temptation to clobber drivers on fuel duty.
And profit-hungry petrol companies should pass on savings much quicker.
Motorists have been a convenient cash cow for far too long.
Sweet nothing
IS there anyone who supports the Government’s sugar tax?
Now a report states that, as well as being useless, it will push up inflation and cost the Treasury over £1billion in pension and benefit payments.
It hurts the poorest, will cost taxpayers a fortune and ultimately does nothing to tackle Britain’s obesity crisis.
Surely time for a rethink?
Haul of fame
WHO saw this coming?
Team GB not only beat our London 2012 high of 65 medals, we finished second in the table above China, taking as many golds as France and Germany combined.
It’s been an exceptional performance that’s lifted the entire nation and created memories that will last forever.
Mo’s double-double, cycling golden couple Laura and Jason, magnificent Max Whitlock’s gymnastics — heroes all.
Proof, were it needed, that Britain will always be Great.
