Heartbroken mother’s plea as 2-year-old daughter fights for life in hospital after husband dies in Newquay wave horror

Killer wave death toll rises to six after tragic events over the weekend

THE mum of a toddler fighting for her life after nearly drowning with her dad last night begged: “Pray for my baby.”

McKayla Bruynius, two, was dragged off a rock by a 10ft wave along with her father Rudy, mum Cindy and two older brothers.

Gardener Rudy, 33, died of his injuries in ­Newquay, Cornwall, on Friday and was one of six people killed over the weekend as storms battered Britain’s coast. As ­McKayla fought for  life last night, Cindy posted a message through a pal.

She wrote: “Please continue to pray for my miracle baby, for her to pull through.
“They can’t give me a certain indication of how much brain damage occurred during her time in the water.”
A JustGiving page to raise money for the family, of Morden, South London, had already raised £19,000 last night.

He was found face down in the water and could not be saved. Pal Dave Murr said: “He was very experienced and the circumstances surrounding his death are very mysterious.”

The fifth tragedy saw a swimmer die in strong currents in Sandbanks, Dorset, on Saturday.

And Joy Godfray died on what would have been her 32nd birthday yesterday after being pulled from the sea in Green Island, Jersey, on Saturday night.
The deaths came after a combination of strong winds and a high spring tide. The RNLI said: “We urge everyone to stay safe.”
