ALEPPO BOY'S NEW HEARTBREAK

Older brother of bloodied Syrian boy Omran Daqneesh dies from injuries sustained in same airstrike

Picture of bloodied and dazed young Omran, 5, melted hearts around the world as a reminder of harsh reality of the war in Syria

THE older brother of bloodied and dazed Syrian boy Omran Daqneesh, whose image melted hearts across the globe last week, has died of injuries sustained in the same airstrike.

Ali Daqneesh, 10, was wounded in Wednesday’s blast in Aleppo, according to UK-based monitoring group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and a witness who was present at the youngster’s death.

He was reported to have suffered internal bleeding and organ damage but tragically did not pull through.

A photograph of his younger brother Omran, 5, was splashed across newspaper front pages after he was pictured in the back of an ambulance caked in blood and dust with a dazed look on his face.

He had been pulled from rubble in war-torn Aleppo, Syria, prior to the picture being taken along with his parents and four siblings.

Russian and Syrian warplanes have intensified their air strikes in the rebel-held east of the city since insurgents made an advance last month, breaking an effective siege.

Around 448 civilians have been killed amid the strikes and fighting so far this month.
