Man, 33, knifed to death in a park in Sunday afternoon horror in Swindon as cops launch murder hunt
POLICE have launched a murder investigation after a 33-year-old man was knifed to death in Swindon.
The victim was assaulted in a field in Gorse Hill at around 2.15pm on Sunday where he suffered serious stab wounds.
An air ambulance landed near the victim but sadly the 33-year-old died at the scene.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that his next of kin have been informed and police are awaiting formal identification to take place.
Forensic teams set up a large white tent in the park while six investigators were seen examining the area.
Police are asking anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to come forward.
Superintendent Phil Staynings of Wiltshire Police said: “This is a tragic incident and our initial thoughts are with the victim’s friends and family at this awful time.
“I want to reassure everyone living in the local area that we are treating this as a major investigation and Wiltshire Police are working tirelessly and at pace to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“Members of the public will see additional patrols in the area and if you have any concerns or information, don’t hesitate to speak to one of our officers.
“I’d also like to take the opportunity to send out a clear message that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated by Wiltshire Police.
“Today’s events highlight the catastrophic consequences these actions can have on individuals, families and the wider community”.
Police have asked for anyone with information to call them on 101 or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
Over the weekend there have been several fatal stabbings across the UK.
In Bradford, a 19-year-old died after he was attacked in the early hours of Sunday morning outside the Oastler Shopping Centre.
A 16-year-old and a 26-year-old have been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
Meanwhile in London, a woman in her 30s was stabbed to death in a flat in Primrose Hill.
Met Police located the suspect – Jason Bell – and has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.
