Oscar Pistorius pleads ‘enough is enough’ as he demands an end to court bid to increase his six year sentence for murder
Blade Runner athlete is fighting appeal against 'shockingly lenient' sentence for killing Reeva Steenkamp
LAWYERS for Oscar Pistorius will argue "enough is enough" when his case resumes in court next week as prosecutors seek to have his six-year jail term for murder increased.
The shamed Blade Runner athlete, 29, is fighting the appeal brought by state prosecutors on the grounds the sentence is "shockingly lenient".
In court papers filed last week, his defence team says it will argue "a continuation of this matter is inimical to the interests of justice, patently unfair and that enough is enough."
Pistorius blasted his lover Reeva Steenkamp to death after a row at his luxury villa in Pretoria on Valentine's Day 2013.
He was initially convicted of the equivalent of manslaughter but it was changed to murder after an appeal.
Last month the state said it would appeal the six-year jail term, which was less than half the 15 years it had sought.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Luvuyo Mfaku said the case would be heard at the High Court in Pretoria next Friday before the original trial Judge Thokozile Masipa.
Pistorius is not expected to attend the hearing.
The latest news in the case comes days after the double amputee was put on suicide watch after he treated in hospital for wrist injuries.
Pistorius claimed he sustained the injuries falling off his bed at the Kgosi Mampuru II Prison in Pretoria.
The incident coincided with the first day of competition in the Rio Olympics, four years after Pistorius became the first amputee runner to compete alongside able-bodied athletes at the London 2012 Games.
