THIS is the moment an enraged driver leaped from his vehicle and raced across a busy junction to attack a car waiting at traffic lights – even punching the window in a bid to smash it.

Dash cam footage shows the assailant launch himself at the car on Tuesday evening, trying to wrench Mark Evans' door open before raining blows down on the window, windscreen and side panel.

The shocking 31-second clip follows on from another off-camera incident a mile earlier when the attacker allegedly undertook on the A6 Stockport Road in Stockport, Greater Manchester, almost ploughing into the side of Mark's Kia C'eed.

Insurance broker Mark, from Stockport, beeped his horn "instinctively"' while travelling from Hazel Grove towards Manchester with his company's 17-year-old apprentice, which sparked the furious outburst from the Vauxhall Insignia driver.

Mark, 37, said: "If he'd gotten into the car I think he would have hospitalised me.

"He was that filled with rage he wouldn't have thrown just one punch at me.

"He felt like that sort of person who wouldn't have known when to stop – he lost complete control of himself."

Mark alleges that during the earlier incident both the attacker and his passenger, who he claims was carrying a half empty whiskey bottle, stopped their car in the middle of the road, got out and approached them.

The passenger allegedly spat at the car before retreating and then the driver crawled down the road in front of them at about 15 miles an hour.

Mark said: "I kept my distance as I was concerned they might start slamming on the brakes and try and cause an accident.

"A mile up the road the traffic lights were changing. They managed to get through while I was first in the queue at the traffic lights – that's when the video starts.

"He pulled up, got out of the car and started running back across the busy main road.

"Thankfully my car automatically locks as soon as you put the key in the ignition and move off.

"I used to find it quite annoying but I was really lucky the car has that feature."

In the footage, the furious man can be seen punching the window when he can't open the door before pointing and hurling abuse through the glass.

It then shows him punching the window twice more and kicking the bonnet three times and booting the side of the car one last time as Mark drives off before slowly sauntering away.

The passenger can be heard shouting: "I'll send this to the police, I'll send this to the police. Go away now. Stop it, go away."

Mark, who has not yet reported the incident to cops but plans to, said: "I couldn't hear what he was shouting – I just remember thinking "traffic lights, please change now". I didn't want him getting in the car.

"He had this mad look in his eye and he was so aggressive which was quite intimidating, especially as I knew there was at least one other guy with a half empty bottle of drink who could have joined in.

"I didn't stop and get out as I wanted to get as far away from him as possible as quickly as possible and I didn't want him to see where I lived.

"I'll probably drive home a different route tonight as I don't want that to happen again."
