A TESCO store had to be evacuated and closed after a peckish SEAGULL broke in and started attacking shoppers.

The hungry bird flew into the store leaving staff and customers in a flap as they tried to flee in a panic.

Tesco, in Truro, Cornwall, was then forced to shut for more than an hour while staff attempted to catch the brazen bird on Tuesday night.

The seagull swooped into the store at about 8.30pm - flying straight into a customer's face as it came through the doors.

It eventually perched on the pet food aisle on a pack of IAMS - next to a sign for pet insurance.

The gull was eventually captured and released back outside.

A Tesco worker, who did not want to be named, said: "The seagull flew into the shop at about 8.30pm, and I was unaware of its presence until it nearly flew into my head."

The worker was told by a colleague that the scavenging seagull had flown at a woman's face as she walked into the store.

She added: "As far as I'm aware she was not injured just a little bit shocked and who wouldn't be, no-one expects to go into their local Tesco and be greeted by a peed off seagull."

It isn't the first time seagulls have ruffled feathers at the store, but on this occasion staff felt it would be safer to evacuate the building.
The worker added: "The store was shut for around an hour and 15 minutes when the bird was eventually caught and let back outside.

"The seagull incident, I'm not going to lie was the highlight of my night.

"We don't get very much excitement but we are sorry for any inconvenience it caused."

Last month a hungry seagull strutted into a Greggs and nabbed a packet of Walkers crisps as stunned customers looked on.
