A 12-day-old tot saved her family from an arson attack after her crying alerted them to the blaze

Cops are hunting a gang suspected of starting the blaze - then standing back to watch

A BABY saved her family from a devastating house fire - after waking her parents up with her screaming cries.

The 12-day-old girl woke up for a feed in the middle of the night - just as a local gang lit a fire on their trampoline and then stood around to watch.

Mum Dena Brewer, 27, quickly called for her partner Jonathon after spotting the flames out of the upstairs window.

He ran out to put out the fire, while their children Macie, eight, and son, Rylie, three, slept in their beds.

Dena said it could have been catastrophic if the fire had spread to the house.

"If it wasn't for my baby waking up - it would have set my house on fire," she said.

I'm still a bit shocked - if Sophie hadn't have woken up we just don't know how far the fire would have gone.

"Sophie had woken up and my partner went to go and do her bottle, but as he walked through he saw a big orange glow coming through our window and saw the trampoline was on fire.

"We rang the fire brigade and my partner was able to run out and start chucking water over it to stop it.

"If we just slept through it, it would have spread to my fence, my decking and then the full house would have gone up in flames."

The arson attack in Hulls, East Yorks., happened in the early hours of Sunday morning as her daughter Macie, eight, and son, Rylie, three, were also sleeping in the house,

Police believe the fire was started deliberately and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Speaking about the gang responsible, Dena said: "They were the ones who lit it and were just stood around laughing at us.

"Police have got CCTV footage of them being there and managed to follow them, so hopefully they managed to track them down.

"I really want to warn people in the area so they don't do it to them too."

The trampoline was completely destroyed and the children's garden toys left charred and melted.

Dena, who is now considering moving house, added: "We have not slept properly since it happened.

They were the ones who lit it and were just stood around laughing at us.

"We have been sleeping downstairs in case they come back for our shed because if they did we would want to be able to get out the house with the three kids.

"I'm still a bit shocked - if Sophie hadn't have woken up we just don't know how far the fire would have gone.

"The smoke could have knocked us out and then you don't want to think about what could have happened - it's quite scary."

A Humberside Police spokeswoman said: "The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

"Anyone with information is asked to call 101 - quoting crime reference number 2207696."
