Brit tourist knifed to death in Cyprus resort was ‘involved in row about urinating in public’ say cops
LOCAL police have also issued arrest warrants for two men after George Low and his friend were stabbed during a night out
MURDERED Brit holidaymaker George Low was involved in a row about urinating in the street before his death, police in Cyprus have said.
The 22-year-old estate agent was stabbed to death in Ayia Napa in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Cypriot police said an argument broke out after the alleged attackers took exception to two British men urinating in the street.
A shoving match is then said to have broken out before Mr Low, of Dartford, Kent, and his friend, Ben Barker, 22, were stabbed.
Two men fled the scene and detectives said they believed they escaped across the Turkish Cypriot border.
Police earlier released the photos of two men they want to interview in connection with the murder .
The two Turkish Cypriot men are Mehmet Akpinar, 22, and 42-year-old Sali Ahmet.
A Greek Cypriot woman, 48, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting offenders.
Earlier it was reported the pair were attacked after sticking up for a female clubber being harassed by two men, it is claimed.
George was stabbed in the neck and his friend, Ben Barker, also 22, suffered four stab wounds to his back in the attack. His injuries are not life-threatening.
A Cyprus policeman said the Greek Cypriot woman was placed under arrest after being questioned by investigators.
George's mother, Helen, 47, said the pair had been due to fly back home on Sunday.
Her son had spent two previous seasons in the resort as a club rep and manager, and was last there in June celebrating his birthday.
She said her son's death had devastated her, her postman husband Martyn, 55, and their children Wesley, Laura, Oliver and Millie.
