After 20 years preaching hate Anjem Choudary was brought down by ISIS oath and the work of hero cop

Evil preacher, who has been linked to 7/7 bombings and the murder of Lee Rigby, is now facing 10 years behind bars

ANJEM Choudary’s downfall came thanks to his decision to swear an oath of allegiance to IS after being urged by fanatics — and the work of a hero cop.

The UK Government had declared ISIS illegal and the terror group announced an Islamic “caliphate” nine days later.

Extremist Siddarth Dhar immediately texted Choudary to say: “Your words would be gold on Twitter.”

Choudary met Dhar, terror fundraiser Abdul Muhid and a white Muslim convert at the Hayfield Masala pub in Stepney Green, East London.

Four days later an oath of allegiance appeared on website AlMustaqbal.net.

In Indonesian and Arabic, it included Choudary and co-defendant Mohammed Rahman’s Islamic names.

But the group had been infiltrated by an undercover cop known only as “Kamal”, who lived among them for 20 months, forming friendships with them.

He visited their homes and ate meals with them in restaurants, while secretly recording their private meetings in Luton, Beds.

Police charged Choudary last August under the little-used Section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

The act outlaws “inviting support for a proscribed organisation”.

Choudary and Rahman claimed their support for Islamic State was purely religious and had nothing to do with the terror group of the same name.

Choudary’s lawyers failed to stop the prosecution in the Supreme Court.
They had claimed the action against him was a breach of his human rights.
