Gabby Petito’s family friend reveals why she chose blue ribbon for hometown vigil as Brian Laundrie remains missing
A FRIEND of Gabby Petito's family has revealed why she chose the color blue for the ribbons meant to honor the vlogger at her hometown vigil.
Jennifer McNamara, 54, chose the color of the ribbons based on the color of Gabby's eyes, she exclusively told The Sun from the 22-year-old's hometown of Blue Point, New York.
She said: “Her eyes, she had these incredibly blue sparkly eyes, her mother described them as like a teal color.
“When we bought the ribbons, we had to buy turquoise because the teal was a little more green than blue. So it took us quite a bit of poking around to find the right color, but that’s what it’s meant to represent.”
McNamara's husband was a 9/11 first-responder who died of cancer and worked at the same fire station as Gabby's stepfather Jimmy Schmidt.
"I've been friendly with Nicole for many years as well," she added of Gabby's mom.
Gabby served as a babysitter for McNamara's 14-year-old Jack, who described the vlogger as a happy person and "someone living with rainbows."
McNamara is part of the Blue Point, New York, community that has organized a vigil for Gabby.

"People want to jump into action they want to do something and we felt that showing support in a very grand way throughout the entire community would be a wonderful thing to do," she said.
"This is a community that grieves together. They do everything together. It's a very tight knit community and I know that everyone here is grieving, you know, for Gabby and for what's happened, and what her family is going through, and so we just want to show support."
