'I EAT MY PREY'

Shameless javelin thrower who filmed himself on a GoPro spearing bear to death says he and his wife EAT the ‘amazing’ meat

Bodybuilding animal killer Josh Bowmar also said his critics should be ‘ashamed ‘ of themselves

THE sick javelin thrower who slaughtered a black bear with a spear has boasted about eating the “nutritious" beast and said his critics should be “ashamed”.

A YouTube video of bodybuilder Josh Bowmar throwing a 7ft homemade weapon, which had a GoPro attached to it, at the terrified animal has went viral sparking worldwide outrage.

Bowmar, from Columbus, Ohio, was hunting with his former vegetarian wife Sarah in Alberta, Canada in May, when he carried out the killing.

However, while speaking to The Mirror, the fitness fanatic defended his actions insisting that the killing was humane.

He said: “You all should be ashamed of yourselves for trying to kill a heritage that has existed for over a million years.

“Literally, since the dawn of man, the spear has been a vital role in survival.

“No one cares more about these animals than us hunters, especially me. If I just wanted to kill, why not use a rifle and shoot from 500 yards with it having no chance to escape?

“If I didn’t care about humane killing, why spend years becoming extremely proficient with a spear to make sure I could harvest this bear ethically?”

Bowmar, who runs fitness company with his wife, said that the dead bear’s meat tasted “amazing” and is “extremely nutritious”

He also described the prehistoric weapon he used to slaughter the bear.

He said: “The blade was five inches wide and 16 inches long and razor sharp.

“I got 24 inches of penetration on that bear, causing more damage and trauma to the bear than any arrow/broadhead/bullet combination could cause.”

While animal campaigners have said the bear could have taken up to 20 hours to die from its wounds, Bowmar insists the beast ran for 60 yards and then died.

He added: “That’s as humane and ethical as one could get in a big game hunting situation.”

Alberta Environment and Parks spokesman Tim Chamberlin told the Huffington Post that spear hunting an "archaic" practice.

He said: "Work is well underway to update Alberta's hunting regulations. We will introduce a ban on spear hunting this fall as part of those updated regulations.

"In the meantime, we have asked Fish and Wildlife officers to investigate this incident to determine if charges are warranted under existing laws."
