Gabby Petito disappearance: Key clues that helped unravel mystery after van spotted near where ‘body found’

A SERIES of clues could help unravel the mystery surrounding the disappearance of YouTuber and vlogger Gabby Petito after her camper van was spotted in Wyoming.

Cops and FBI detectives found a body "consistent" with the 22-year-old's characteristics at the Grand Teton National Park on Sunday.

Travel bloggers Jenn and Kyle Bethune claim they discovered the camper parked off a dirt track just two days later,reports.

They said they spotted the van twice – once when they entered the national park, and a second time when they left.

Kyle said that the van looked “abandoned” but said it was “neat” to see travelers from Florida touring in the midwest.

Social media users have spotted a series of "clues" that could help solve the mystery surrounding Gabby’s disappearance.

There seems to be a hat on the dashboard which looks similar to what Gabby was wearing in her last post.

The image was part of a series of fall-looking pictures captioned “Happy Halloween”.

It's not known where the photo was taken as there are no location tags included on the vlogger's post.

Some have noticed stickers near the number plates on the back that appear to be from Venice, .

Others shared snaps showing a pair of abandoned sandals left on a dirt track that looked similar to shoes Gabby was wearing while touring the midwestern canyons.

And, eagle-eyed users noticed the rusty paintwork just above the fuel cap.

Footage of the van has gone viral on social media, and it was handed to the FBI as part of their investigation.

A Facebook account dedicated to finding Gabby said: "We have this video, so does the FBI. We believe this is the van for multiple reasons.

"Please do not clog up this tip line with the same video. This is in the hands of the right people. Thank you so much, this is exactly why we are asking people to review older photos and video."

'IMPORTANT INFORMATION'

Gabby’s mom Nichole Schmidt told the : “It’s a very important piece of information as it pretty much starts the timeline.

“This new video of the actual van being seen on the 27th appears legit. That was the last location the van might have been seen. It’s a huge piece of the puzzle.”

Traveler Shannon Baker claimed she saw the van on August 25 – the same day that Gabby contacted her family.

She told : “It had the black ladder on the back and the two black rooftops on top, the two bars, and we made the comment that would be the perfect little camper to go around in.”

Schmidt says she’s “not entertaining” a TikTok video where a woman claims she picked up a man believed to be Brian on August 29 - adding that the timeline "seems way off".

Miranda Baker, a Wisconsin-based TikTok user, has alleged that she and her boyfriend were approached by Laundrie at the nature reserve.

The Tiktoker claimed Laundrie said he was hiking alone when he asked Baker and her boyfriend for a ride in their jeep.

She  on Friday explaining what happened and noting that the hitchhiker offered $200 for the ride.

North Port Police Department spokesperson Joshua Taylor confirmed to The Independent that they had talked with Baker.

Cops found a body consistent with Gabby's characteristics as they searched the natural park.

'SHE TOUCHED THE WORLD'

Charles Jones, a supervisory senior agent in Wyoming for FBI Denver, said yesterday: "The search revealed human remains consistent with the description of Gabrielle ‘Gabby’ Petito.

"The FBI and our partners extend our heartfelt condolences to Gabby's family and loved ones. This is an incredibly difficult time for them, and our thoughts are with them as they mourn the loss of their daughter."

An official cause of death remains unknown but an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

He posted a picture of his daughter in front of a mural of angel wings, accompanying the snap with the caption: “She touched the world."

Meanwhile, Laundrie is reported missing – days after returning to Florida.

He returned to the state alone on September 1 and cops seized the couple’s camper van as they examined it for clues.

was identified as a “person of interest” in the case but wasn’t named a “suspect”. He has not been charged with any crime.

He disappeared on Tuesday after telling  he was going hiking at the Carlton Reserve - an area made up of around 25,000 acres of wilderness.

The FBI along with dozens of local agencies searched the area over the weekend using drones and scent-tracking K9s but failed to find anything.

The search for  kicked off at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, a 160-acre park connected to the marshy Carlton Reserve.

The Carlton Reserve is an area made up of around 25,000 acres of wilderness.

Cops have since confirmed today that they have no plans to conduct a major search of the vast reserve, NBC reports.

The Carlton Reserve is home to feral hogs, alligators, panthers, and snakes.

The nature reserve has around 80miles of hiking trails but most of the dirt tracks are closed as they are currently flooded.

Police fear that Laundrie could be in the swamp for “months” and worry that he may have hurt himself.
