Donald Trump vows to enact ‘extreme vetting’ of immigrants if he wins US election

Donald will create rigorous new screening tests for immigrants coming into the USA

US presidential candidate Donald Trump has vowed to enact "extreme vetting" of immigrants if he wins the White House.

In a speech in Ohio - outlining his plans to fight terror group ISIS - the tycoon said he wants to create a new screening test for arrivals to the US.

Applicants will be tested to determine if they share Western liberal values such as religious tolerance. He also said he'll ban citizens from nations with "a history of exporting terrorism".

He said: "A Trump administration will establish a clear principle that will govern all decisions pertaining to immigration, and we will be tough, and we will be even extreme.

"We should only admit into this county those who share our values and respect our people. In the Cold War we had an ideological screening test, the time is overdue to develop a new screening test for the threats we face today.

"I call it extreme vetting, I call it extreme, extreme vetting. Our country has enough problems, we don't need more.

"In addition to screening out all members of sympathizers of terrorist groups we must also screen out any with hostile attitudes towards our country and its principles, or who believe that Sharia law should supplant American law.

"Those who support bigotry and hatred will not be admitted for immigration into our country."

Speaking about banning immigration to the US from "many regions", he added: "We will have to temporarily suspend immigration form some of the most dangerous and volatile regions of the world, that have a history of exporting terrorism. Not for us, not for us."

Trump also claimed his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton was not fit enough to be president, saying "she lacks the mental and physical stamina to take on ISIS and all of the many adversaries we face".

He again blamed Obama and Clinton for the creation of ISIS, adding: "The rise of ISIS is the direct result of policy decision made by president Obama and Secretary of State Clinton.

"With one episode of bad judgement after another Hilary Clinton's policies launched ISIS onto the world stage."

Trump also said he wanted work closely with Russia to defeat the terror group.

He said: "We will work very closely with Nato on this new mission. I believe we can find common ground with Russia in the fight against ISIS, wouldn't that be a good thing?

"My administration will aggressively pursue joint and coalition military operations to crush and destroy ISIS."

He also vowed to end "nation building", he said: "If I become president the era of nation building will be brought to a very swift and decisive end."

Trump previously called for a blanket ban on all Muslims entering America after 14 people were murdered by Islamic extremists in San Bernardino, California, in December.
