A PILOT has been seriously injured after a light aircraft smashed into trees in Greater Manchester.
The plane crashed during take-off near to Barton Aerodrome, Salford, at around 1pm this afternoon.
A 67-year-old man suffered a broken leg during the crash.
He was freed by firefighters and rushed to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries, according to Greater Manchester Police.
No-one else was injured in the crash.
Pieces of the wreckage can be seen in the trees.
Sergeant Stuart Jones, of GMP, said: "Police, fire and ambulance crews were quickly on the scene and able to get the man out of the aircraft.
"The man has been taken to hospital and is being treated for his injuries. We wish him a speedy recovery.
"Officers will be in the area whilst the clean-up operation takes place."
City Airport and Heliport declined to comment on the incident.
On Sunday, spectators at Kent's Herne Bay air show waded into the sea to help a pilot who ditched his light aircraft into the water after it ran into trouble.
The air show said on its Facebook page that the incident involved the Turbulent Display Team, and confirmed that the pilot suffered minor injuries.
