Trump calls grieving families of US service members killed in Kabul bombing and says he’ll ‘try to attend funerals’
DONALD Trump has been placing calls to grieving relatives of the 13 US service people who were killed in the ISIS-K bombing of Kabul airport - and may attend some of their funerals, it was revealed Wednesday.
“It was just very cordial, very understanding. He was awesome,” Gold Star dad Darrin Hoover said of his conversation with Trump last week.
TRUMP: 'FINEST OF THE FINEST'
“He was just talking about the finest of the finest.
"He said he heard and saw everything that we had said, and he offered his condolences several times, and how sorry he was," Hoover told the .
Hoover was reflecting on the loss of his son, Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Darrin Hoover who died along with 12 of his comrades on .
Hoover showed up at Dover Air Force Base to receive the casket of his 31-year-old Marine son, but refused an opportunity to meet with President Biden.
Three days after the savage terrorist attack, Biden stood alongside relatives to receive the American flag draped caskets coming off the C-17 aircraft ramp.
But the father was perplexed while standing there in the solemn moment because .
"The checking of his watch, that didn't happen just once.
"That happened on every single one that came out of the airplane.
"It had happened on every single one of them."
'DON'T FORGET THAT FACE'
And Biden kept invoking his late son Beau to justify his decision to remove troops from Afghanistan.
Maj. Beau Biden was a Delaware Army National Guard lawyer who served in Baghdad during the Iraq War but died of brain cancer.
The father of Lance Cpl Jared Schmitz, 20, a Marine who was killed in the attack felt Biden missed the moment reflecting on the loss of his son at Dover Air Force base and characterized the comments as “too much to bear.”
, and recalled him steered the conversation to ramble about his son Beau.
“I respect anybody that lost somebody, but it wasn’t an appropriate time,” Schmitz said.
Schmitz explained how he wanted to talk about Jared and that he and his wife even pulled out a photo of their son to make sure the president saw his face and remembered him.
“I said: ‘Don't you ever forget that name. Don't you ever forget that face. Don't you ever forget the names of the other 12,’” he said.
KABUL 'WAS AVOIDABLE'
Rylee McCollum, 20, also died in the blast at the Kabul airport.
The .
His sister, Roice McCollum, .
"As far as goes we are truly disgusted with the administration and how they handled the entire thing," she said.
"It was avoidable and none of those Marines needed to be put in that situation.
"It was incompetent."
Shana Chappell, the mom of Kareem Nikoui, accused Biden of being a "weak human being" and a "traitor."
She posted on Facebook: "You are no leader of any kind. You turned your back on my son, on all of our heroes!!! My son's blood is on your hands.
"All 13 of them, their blood is on your hands."
'IF I WERE YOUR PRESIDENT'
Blaming Biden so publicly apparently caught Trump’s attention.
The former president responded with a statement directly speaking to Shana.
“Shana, you are 100% correct,” the read.
“If I were President, your wonderful and beautiful son Kareem would be with you now, and so would the sons and daughters of others, including all of those who died in the vicious Kabul airport attack.
“Civilians should have been brought out first, along with our $85 billion of equipment, with the Military coming out very safely after all was clear.
“I love you, and I love Kareem.”
'GREATEST HUMILIATION'
Trump has railed against the Biden administration's handling of exiting from Afghanistan.
He’s harped on the hasty Aug. 31 date which inevitably left behind Americans and key Afghan allies to fend for themselves.
He blamed Biden for “overseeing the greatest foreign policy humiliation in the history of the United States of America, according to a transcript from a .
“This is the greatest humiliation I’ve ever seen.
“Biden’s botched exit in Afghanistan is the most astonishing display of gross incompetence by a nation’s leader, perhaps at any time that anybody’s ever seen.”
The former president also took Biden to task over the billions of dollars worth of armaments that the Afghan military ditched and is now in Taliban control.
