Scott Peterson was a fertilizer salesman who was convicted of murdering his wife, Laci Peterson, and unborn child in 2002.
Months after Laci was reported missing, authorities found the Modesto school teacher's body in the San Francisco Bay.
Since his conviction, Peterson has maintained that he was innocent.
On November 12, 2004, Peterson was put on death row. However, on August 24, 2020, his death penalty conviction was overturned.
While the death penalty was overturned, Peterson was re-sentenced in December 2021.

By March 12, Peterson was back in court after the LAIP claimed there was new evidence that suggested he didn't kill his wife and their unborn child.
According to , the LAIP said the new piece of evidence is on the van that was set on fire the day after Laci went missing.
