When is Girl Scout cookie season?
THE highly coveted Girl Scout cookies have introduced a new addition to their menu.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the organization had allowed on social media.
When is Girl Scout cookie season?
Girl Scout cookie season is set to start in January 2022 and will run through April, although the time may vary based on location.
The cookies are notorious for being sold outside of supermarkets and stores aside from the usual door-to-door approach.
However, in March of 2020, Girl Scouts canceled door-to-door sales and in-person cookie booths to curb the spread of coronavirus.
The organization said it announced new Cookie Business badges that "help girls think like entrepreneurs as they run their own cookie businesses and incorporate online sales via the Digital Cookie platform."
What new flavors did Girl Scouts release?
Girl Scouts are enticing shoppers with a brownie-inspired cookie for the 2022 season.
The organization issued a statement regarding the new Adventurefuls cookie, saying: “Available nationwide, every bite of Adventurefuls is full of indulgent brownie-inspired flavor with a combination of chocolatey and caramel flavors, and smooth and crispy textures, for an incredible taste of adventure in every bite.”
Previously, for the 2021 season, a French toast-inspired cookie "Toast-Yay!" joined the lineup.
With coronavirus restrictions in place, many Girl Scout troops have canceled their routes.
"This is unfortunate, but given this is a girl-driven program and the majority of cookies are sold in-person, it was to be expected," Kelly Parisi, a spokeswoman for Girl Scouts of the USA, told the AP.
Additionally, a drop in memberships has played a role in the low number of sales.
Around 1.7million girls were enrolled in Girl Scouts in 2019, down almost 30 percent from 2009.
Furthermore, child labor that is used for palm oil in the cookies also impacted the century-old company, the AP reported in December.
Some local troops boycotted the sales this year because of the palm oil report.
Girl Scouts normally sell around 200million boxes of cookies per year, or around $800million worth.
The Girl Scout council is currently encouraging people to buy boxes online through its Hometown Heroes program, which donates cookies to health care workers, firefighters, and other first responders.
