Woman opens fire in baptist church in Alabama at 100th-anniversary celebration leaving two injured

TWO people were shot in a church in Alabama on Sunday after a "domestic incident."

Mobile Police Public Information Officer Katrina Frazier told The US Sun in a statement, "On Sunday, August 8, 2021, at approximately 1:47pm, police officers responded to 2451 St. Stephens Road, Amity Baptist Church, in reference to shots fired."

"Upon arrival, police officers located two individuals injured from gunshot wounds. The detective determined a known female shot the male victim after church service."

"Both were transported to local hospitals for non-threatening injuries. This investigation is ongoing and more details will be available on Monday."

Church services were not happening when the shooting occurred, reported.

spoke with Deacon Thomas Young, who said the church was celebrating its 100th anniversary when the incident occurred.

Deacon Young said most of the churchgoers were in the back of the building and took cover during the shooting.

Deacon Young also said the injuries are non-life-threatening.

The cause of the shooting is not currently known.

Information about the perpetrator has not been released.

Just one day earlier on Saturday, August 7, the church's shared images of free clothes, food, and school supplies seemingly available at the location.

UPDATE 8/9/2021:

Mobile Police Public Information Officer Katrina Frazier sent The US Sun an update on Monday, August 9.

"Through the course of the investigation, the detective determined the subject entered the church armed with a gun after church services," the update revealed.

"The subject pointed the gun at the victim and another individual. The victim attempted to disarm the subject when the gun discharged and struck the subject in the right arm. The bullet exited the subject's right arm and struck the victim in his right leg."

The update named the subject as Linda Walker, 58.

Walker will be charged and transported to Metro jail, pending release from the hospital.

Walker will be charged with domestic violence assault, domestic violence menacing, no pistol permit, and menacing, the statement from Frazier noted.
