A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "The manager of Nando's called police saying that a man had grabbed a meat cleaver from their kitchen and was waving it towards another male in the restaurant.

"Two PCSOs (police community support officers) on patrol were passing by and saw the male, they alerted PCs and directed them to where he was."

The Metropolitan Police also said that the men involved knew each other, and they believe the incident was part of an ongoing dispute.

After the fracas they tweeted: "Male arrested in #nandos on #upperstreet fighting people with this meat cleaver.

"Not terror related & no one hurt"
