A MAJOR security alert was sparked at a jail by an imitation gun made of bread.
The baked carving, painted black, was found hidden in electrical casing after a tip-off.
The prison governor and police were called as it was feared an inmate was plotting to use it in an escape bid.
A source said: “Make no mistake, this caused a security issue.

“From a short distance away it is almost impossible to tell it apart from a real handgun.
“There is no doubt that it had the capacity to threaten and coerce.”
The weapon was found at 741-capacity category C HMP Stafford.
Glyn Travis, of the Prison Officers’ Association, said: “With fewer staff and more prisoners, it is harder and harder to search for these sort of items.”
