The Law Commission said current legislation fails to stop the harmful abuse peddled online.

The new law would cover anyone sending a post which is likely or intends to cause harm.

Prof Penney Lewis, of the Commission, said: “Online abuse can cause untold harm to those targeted. Change is needed.”
