The young man stopped after the crash to say sorry, police said.

The toddler was rushed to a south London hospital by her family following the collision and remains in a stable condition.

The girl’s family contacted police about the crash in the early hours of Tuesday morning after her condition worsened.

Angry local residents called for a clampdown on the trendy scooters following a series of near misses.

LOCAL ANGER

E-scooters have been a problem in the park for some time and other children have nearly been hit, according to residents.

Bisrat Bosretsiom, 31, who lives near the park, said: “I’m scared for my son because he almost got hit around Easter time and I screamed.

“There’s this one boy, a typical teenage boy with attitude, who rides his e-scooter around the park.

"He also takes it into the nursery playground and one mum even grabbed him by the neck and told him to stop."

It could have happened to any of our children and we’re all really distressed about.

A local mum

Natalia Osipova, 43, who also lives nearby, said: “I’m not surprised at all because my daughter, who is nine, was almost hit when she was playing with our dog.

“There a specific guy who rides around the park on his scooter very fast - you cannot believe how fast and even goes into the children’s playground because their is a little hill.

“That day when he nearly hit my daughter I was shouting at him, saying 'look where you’re going, you’re going too fast."

A mum whose four-year-old son attends a preschool located inside the park, said: “My son goes to nursery in the park and we are worried

“When we pick them up, there are e-scooters running along the road outside all the time.

“It could have happened to any of our children and we’re all really distressed about."

Officers believed the rider of the e-scooter was a young male, who was with a group of people including another e-scooter and a bicycle.

Detective Inspector Lucie Card, of the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: “A little girl has been left in a serious condition after this collision and her family are, of course, very distressed.

“I am asking this person to please come forward and speak to us because we do need to understand what happened. I know it might feel a little overwhelming, but please do the right thing and call us or go to your nearest police station.
