Cops launch hunt for ‘hammer attacker’ who injured teen boy, 16, in Manchester

Teenager in hospital with serious head injuries after 'brutal' attack

A TEENAGER is in hospital with serious head injuries after a "brutal" attack during which police believe a hammer was used.

Shortly before 6pm on Friday police were called to Chapel Street Park, Manchester, where they discovered a 16-year-old with serious head injuries.

Det Insp Brian Morley from Greater Manchester Police said: “This investigation is in its early stages and we are currently trying to piece together exactly what happened and the possible motive behind this.

“A 16-year-old boy has been badly injured with what we believe could be a hammer, but we are still following a number of lines of enquiry.

“This was a brutal attack and I’m appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward if they have any information they believe could be linked to this.

“Did you see anything suspicious in the lead up to this attack? Or maybe you saw someone running away from the area shortly afterwards?
“Even if you think your information is trivial, I would urge you to please call police on 101.”
The boy remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
