The North West Ambulance Service said they were "shocked and appalled" by the incident, which they say "could have meant the difference between life and death" for the patient they were attending.

The bag was recovered yesterday morning in Vulcan Park covered in vomit and the majority of the contents removed.

A typical response bag contains bandages, thermometers, gloves, bloop pressure measuring kits, aspirin, adreneline, and GTN tablets.

GTN tablets, given to patients suffering from an angina attack, can be fatal if taken incorrectly.

Police have described the offender as "male, 5ft 8in tall, of skinny build, with a shaven head and was wearing a grey hooded top and joggers".

Social media users were quick to slam the thief, with one Facebook commenter calling him a "dirty, filthy, thieving scumbag" and calling for the police to catch him, "lock him up and throw away the key."
