THE SUN hit the streets of London yesterday to test public support for the return of the “true blue” passport – and found Brits only too happy to give the plan their stamp of approval.
Our campaign to have the burgundy EU document replaced with a traditional British blue version has already gathered the backing of many key politicians and business figures.
When we took our 7ft-tall mock-up of how the document might look to Brits queuing at the Passport Office in Victoria, west London, they were only too happy to add their voices to the call.
Posing next to our mock-up, Labourer Kieran Braim, of Croydon, south London, said: “I absolutely agree that we Brits should have our blue passports back – to help remind everyone what being British is all about.”
Keiran, 26, who was accompanied by son Regan, two, added: “It would help to bring the nation together – as well as to show the world that we’re patriotic, that we’re proud of our own country.”

Full-time mum Kelly Davis, 27, from Raynes Park, south-west London, was at Victoria’s Passport Office to collect her first ever passport.
She said: “I only wish it were a lovely, royal blue.
“It harks back to a time before the EU, and is much more historical than the maroon we have now.
“Now is the time to reclaim our national identity – and the blue passport represents that.
"It will help to bring some pride back to our country.
“It also looks a lot better – it somehow looks more regal and important.”
After visiting the Passport Office, The Sun took our mock-up to Westminster, posing it next to the House of Commons to help convey our message to MPs.
Our campaign has already been backed by politicians including MP Michael Fabricant and MEP Dan Hannan, as well as Dragons’ Den tycoon Theo Paphitis.
